This black and white drawing from Harper’s Weekly is a “Bird’s-eye view of Chicago as it was before the Great Fire.” It was drawn by Theodore R. Davis looking west towards the city, showing the river and lake as a bustling port city, and identifies 49 buildings and areas of the city as they appeared in 1871.
