The planetarium building was designed in the ancient Roman classical style, but includes Art Deco ornamentation. The primary visual motif is the planets and stars with each of the twelve zodiac signs and numerous constellations included in the decorations. Original architect: Ernest A. Grunsfeld Jr. Date completed: 1930.
The Adler Planetarium is the first modern planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. The view of Chicago’s skyline from the Adler’s location is the best in the city.
