Named to honor Illinois Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen, the Dirksen Federal Building is part of the Chicago Federal Complex which also includes the Kluczynski Federal Building, the Metcalfe Federal Building, the Metropolitan Correctional Center and the Chicago Federal Building. The Dirksen building is best known as the home of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Alexander Calder’s eye-catching red Flamingo stabile is featured in the outdoor open plaza. Original Architect: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Date Completed: 1964. Height: 30 stories.
