The John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company financed the design and construction of this high rise structure and was consequently the origin of the official name of the building. The building was designed using geometric patterns of diagonal and horizontal exterior beams to create an extremely stable vertical structural system. In this photo the Palmolive Building can bee seen in the background and the Old Water Tower in the foreground. Original Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Date completed: 1969. Restoration: 1995. Height: 1127 feet (with television and radio antennae: 1475 feet). Number of Stories: 100
