As public transportation improved and different options increased in number, the businesses and entertainment venues in Englewood began to enjoy popularity and success and congestion similar to that in Chicago’s Loop. The 5 and 10 cent store, S S Kresge, was one of many businesses that flourished, struggled and eventually closed in Englewood.
