The corner of 63rd and Halted Streets is the major intersection in Englewood, a popular business district which developed on the south west side of Chicago in the late 1800s. As public transportation improved and different options increased in number, the businesses and entertainment venues in Englewood began to enjoy popularity and success and congestion similar to that in Chicago’s Loop. The 5 and 10 cent store, S S Kresge, was one of many businesses that flourished, struggled and eventually closed in Englewood. EEC 11211
