  
A world-renowned art museum, the Art Institute of Chicago is the city’s oldest institution for visual arts. Used as an annex building during the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, the original structure was designed in the classical style of the buildings of the World’s fair with the difference that the Art Institute building was built to as a permanent structure. Original architect: Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge. Date completed: 1893.
