Although Native Americans inhabited the region earlier, the City of Chicago is believed to have been “born” at the mouth of the Chicago River when Jean Baptiste Point du Sable built his home there. The waterway divides into North and South branches at the river bend, known as Wolf Point, seen in the lower left corner of this aerial view. Eight bridges connect Chicago’s south and north sides at Franklin, Wells, LaSalle, Clark, Dearborn, State Street Wabash, Michigan, Columbus and Lake Shore Drive. This vier is looking west towards Lake Michigan. Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, Tribune Tower, Wrigley Building and Navy Pier are Chicago icons visible in the photograph. EC11161
