John F. Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from 1960-1963. At the age of 43, he was the youngest President and a symbol of hope for a brighter future. In his inaugural speech, Kennedy spoke these famous words: “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” He is remembered for his bold handling of the Cuban missile crisis and his challenge to American scientists to land astronauts on the moon by 1969. Kennedy also proposed wide-ranging civil rights laws and set up the Peace Corps, sending volunteers to help people in poor countries. Kennedy’s presidency was tragically cut short when he was assassinated while riding in a Dallas motorcade.
