PSN-825 (B/W)

This contemporary skyscraper was designed using a “bundled tube” structural system. Nine 75-foot tubes rise from a concrete slab resting on steel and concrete caissons that extend to bedrock 65 feet below the building’s three subbasements. The staggered ending of support tubes creates the step-like appearance of the building’s exterior and provides the strength needed to withstand Chicago’s winds. Original Architect: Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Date Completed: 1974. Height: 1454 feet (110 stories)
